Christian Taylor/Guest Of The Month

Christian Taylor.jpeg

Christian Taylor is a two time US Olympic Gold Medal winner in the triple jump, four time World Champion, and seven time diamond league winner.

He went to the University of Florida in 2010 and won the indoor/outdoor NCAA Championship titles while helping his team win the team title that year as well.

In 2011 Christian won the USATF Outdoor Championships. He again helped his U of F team win the team title again that same year.

Christian decided to skip his senior year at Florida to turn pro. He moved back to his home Fayetteville Ga, and started working with a new coach named Rana Reider, and his training group. Christian ended up winning the World Championships later that summer with a jump of 17.96 meters.

In the 2011 season, Christian won a silver medal in the World Championships in Daegu, South Korea.

During the Olympic Trials in 2012 Christian tried to make the Olympic team in both the long/triple jump. He placed fourth in the long jump and just missed the team, but he won in the triple jump to secure his spot for London.

Christian ended up winning his first Gold medal at the London Olympic Games at 22 years young.

In 2013 Christian battled Patella tendonitis in his left leg which ended up hurting his progress in the next competitions. He decided to jump off the opposite leg at the Diamond League final that year and ended up finishing with a 16.89m, still a meter off his personal best, but it still got him a second place finish.

In 2014 Christian saw that jumping with his left leg was not doable, he focused on learning to jump using his right leg. It was not an easy process to do and he struggled in at first, but Christian stuck with it. At the final meet of the season, at the Zurich Diamond league meet on his last jump Christian was able to record a jump of 17.51 to win the meet.

In 2015, during the first Diamond League meet of the year in Doha, with an intense battle of wills, Christian was one of two competitors to jump over 18m.

Christian would jump over 18m two more times that season finishing with a 18.21 at the World Championships in Beijing, China, which gave him the World title and American record. The record is still stands as the second furthest jump of all time.

Christian’s 2016 outdoor season was dominant, he was undefeated all the way up until the Olympic trials. He ended up placing second and still made it to Rio.

Christian won his second Olympic gold with a jump of 17.68m. He became the first man in history to win Olympic triple jump titles while using two different take off legs.

Christian didn’t bask in the Olympic glow for too long and started to get ready for the 2017 World Championships. He set a Diamond League record in, Eugene, Oregon with a distance of 18.11m, making it the longest jump on American soil.

Christian completed the year with winning in London and becoming the first male triple jumper in history to win back to back World titles.

In 2019 Christian was able to win his fourth world title in Doha, Qatar, and later finished his studies and received his Bachelor of Science in Sports Management Degree.
